DAY 1 ACCOMMODATION IN SARRIA ACCOMMODATION AT HOTEL ALFONSO IX
You need to make your own way to Sarria. This beautiful inland Galician village is a paradise for art lovers. You’ll have the chance to discover antique pieces and get to know the art of restoration first-hand. When you arrive, the Malecón riverside walkway will surprise you. You’ll enjoy the company of its inhabitants. You can sit down at one of the terraces of the Malecón and sample the delicious km-0 food products, which will conquer your palate. Meanwhile, the pretty views overlooking the river Sarria will accompany you between bites. The river will be your companion if you decide to take a stroll. You’ll reach the area of O Chanto, which will welcome you to take a relaxing dip in its crystal-clear pools. Throughout its picturesque streets, Sarria will reveal charming spots such as the Magdalena convent-monastery and the Santa Mariña church, and enchant you with its mural dedicated to the pilgrim. You can discover all this accompanied by one of our guides. You’ll also be able to walk through one of the most enchanting natural spaces in the area – the Aceñas route. Sarria will let you live the experience with all five senses, so you can start to gradually switch off and continue on your journey thinking about what to feel.

DAY 2 SARRIA – PORTOMARÍN STAGE→ 22 KM / 5-6 HR. ACCOMMODATION AT HOTEL VISTALEGRE
Your journey will take you along beautiful country roads known as corredoiras and you’ll pass beneath native trees such as oak groves, getting to know on your way charming small villages such as Lavandeira or Ferreiros, embellished with pretty hórreos – typical Galician stone granaries. The history of this road will gradually start to emerge when you reach the river Miño, which will welcome you to Portomarín. The former village of Portomarín is located under its waters, submerged when the Belesar reservoir was built. In the village you can feel with your fingertips the beautiful cobbled walls of the houses – home to the strong-willed, kind people of the community. You’ll venture into its entrails until you reach the church of San Nicolás de Portomarín, rebuilt stone by stone when its original site on the shores of the river Miño became totally submerged when the dam was built.
DAY 3 PORTOMARÍN – PALAS DE REI STAGE → 25 KM / 5-6 HR. ACCOMMODATION AT CASA LEOPOLDO
You’ll first walk up to Castromaior and then the Serra de Ligonde before gradually going down through the small villages of Eirexe and Ligonde to the village of Palas de Rei. The history of this stage has ties with the royalty, as in the 16th century this was the pilgrim route the king and queen made to Santiago de Compostela. In fact, the name Palas de Reis comes from an ancient castle in the area, Pambre castle, a 16th-century fortress. In 1484 it became the property of the Counts of Monterrei with military guardianship duties on the Camino de Santiago and the collection of transit tolls.
DAY 4 PALAS DE REI – ARZÚA STAGE → 30 KM / 6-7 HR. ACCOMMODATION AT HOTEL BOUTIQUE 1930
You’ll pass through pretty country lanes and mediaeval bridges. En route to Melide, we suggest you pay a visit to Muuhlloa – a cooperative of women from the area who decided to develop ecological, natural and sustainable cosmetic products with local resources, so as not to abandon their rural home. Once you reach Melide, you can stop and enjoy a serving of the famous pulpo á feira, a typical Galician octopus dish bound to make your taste buds dance, savouring Galicia in every bite. You’ll continue through typical farmland, characteristic of inland Galicia, which will take you to Arzúa after crossing the pretty Iso river. We invite you to share the history of the most interesting monument in this town – the Magdalena chapel, built by the Augustinian order in the 14th century to attend to pilgrims.
That afternoon, so you can continue discovering different local proposals, we suggest you pay a visit to the Enredo do Abelleiro – a living honey museum where you can discover everything related to this liquid gold and learn about the importance of bees for our ecosystem and life on earth.
DAY 5 ARZÚA – RÚA STAGE→ 20 KM / 4-5 HR. ACCOMMODATION AT HOTEL RURAL CASA DO ACIVRO
One of the most typical foods of the area you’ll try will be the delicious cheese with Designation of Origin Arzúa-Ulloa and also melindres, typical pastries from Melide. You’ll walk through enchanting towns, getting to know their inhabitants, the streams they drink from, sheltered under the leaves of lush trees. You can stamp your Pilgrim Credential in the Santiago de Arzúa church. Green hills will be your travel companions until you reach the town of Rúa. You’ll come across shrines such as Santa Irene’s and delicious food such as Piñeiro chicken, a poultry breed highly coveted in the area.
DAY 6 RÚA – SANTIAGO STAGE → 20 KM / 4-5 HR. ACCOMMODATION AT HOTEL HERRADURA
After passing behind Pedrouzo, you’ll go up through Amenal and down through Lavacolla. You’ll climb once again until reaching Monte do Gozo. From here you’ll first glimpse the towers of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Excitement to reach the finishing line increases with each step. Just four kilometres lie between you and the city. You’ll cross the San Lázaro neighbourhood, cross the Porta do Camiño, leave behind the Cervantes square and through the pretty streets of the old town of Santiago de Compostela you’ll reach the city’s cathedral.
After enjoying the treasured moment of arriving at your destination, you can meet the people of the town of Santiago de Compostela on your visit to Creativas Galegas, located 400 m from the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. You can observe first-hand different craft activities and meet and embrace the 200-year-old camellia tree.
DAY 7 END OF JOURNEY
Keep on enjoying the city of Santiago de Compostela and is surrounding area. You can take part in the trip to Fisterra, discovering the essence of the Costa da Morte.
