The Hotel Montemar***, next to the bridge to La Toja island, offers a serene setting perfect for leisurely walks and soaking in its gardens and parks. It stands at the beginning of the seafront promenade leading to the fishing port of O Grove. The hotel is also a short distance from the beach of A Lanzada and the hiking routes of San Vicente do Mar and Pedras Negras. It is an impeccable base for exploring both the Rías Altas and Rías Baixas, as well as Santiago de Compostela.

Experience a memorable journey aboard our catamarans through the Ria de Arousa. This journey, lasting around an hour, can commence either from the port of O Grove or the island of La Toja.

As we sail, you will witness the importance of fishing, shellfishing, and aquaculture in the Ria de Arousa, which is the largest and most productive estuary in Galicia.

We will be visiting mussel, oyster, and scallop farms, while watching the boats at work. A unique pause will allow you to gaze through the underwater viewing glasses, revealing the seabed and the marine life beneath the farms.

From the boat you will see the shellfish banks, islets such as ‘A Figueira’, with its Tower of San Sadurniño, an old mediaeval fortress; the Arousa island and its natural reserve of Punta Carreirón; villages like Cambados, capital of Albariño wine; and O Grove, renowned for its tourism appeal and its inshore port.

During the journey, you will enjoy steamed mussels from the estuary served with water, wine, or soft drinks aboard. It is not without reason that this is dubbed the Mussel Boat!

Our package includes a sea-view double room, breakfast buffet, parking space, and the catamaran ride, which starts from La Toja island (just a 15-minute walk from the hotel). You will be able to see the mussel farms (‘bateas’), where the farming process will be explained, and you will have the opportunity to taste them. While aboard, you will also see the seabed, the marine ecosystem, the shellfish banks, and more. The adventure lasts 1 hour. Kindly check timings and terms.
